Equalizers

By DaySounds © 2023

Equalizer, what is an equalizer?
In downtown Chicago--nineteen eighties,
It was a term used by street gangs
To name something which made
A tall, muscular man equal
To a short, weak one...It was a gun.

There is another equalizer,
One which nobody would like to buy,
Or want to have--even without charge!

It equals not only the strong and the weak,
The short and the tall,
But also the wealthy and the poor,
The powerful and the powerless,
The famous and the unknown,
The slave and the free,
The loved and the unloved.

It makes the arrogant, fake, deep voice of men,
And the fake high pitch of women,
To fade away, recovering their natural
Male and female sounds.

Envy fades away, jelousy dissapears,
The desire to be first and best--gone.
The proud loses its boasting,
Popularity is no longer sought,
It becomes of no account.

Some give their lives to get rid of it;
Some welcome it as a powerful drug,
Which takes away worry and anxiety;
Some try to get Fentanyl--the Great Bear,
Or just endure it, live with it;
Others seek the real meaning of life,
Eternal Life: GOD.

Whoever has that equalizer knows its name:
Excruciating, continuous, unending...
Pain.

"In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good courage:
I have overcome the world." --Jesus, the Christ

"For our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are
expecting a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will transform the
body of our humiliation that it may be conformed to the body of his
glory, by the power that also enables Him to make all things subject
to Himself." (Philippians 3:20-21)

"...'He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no
more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more,
for the former things have passed away.' And He who sat upon the throne
said, 'Behold, I make all things new.'"

"Also He said, 'Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.'
And He said to me, 'It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the
beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the fountain of
the water of life without payment. He who conquers shall have this
heritage, and I will be his God and he shall be my son. But as for the
cowardly, the unbelieving, the polluted, as for murderers, fornicators,
sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their lot shall be in the lake
that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.'"
(Revelation 21:4-8)

If you are in this latter list, and want to get out, there is hope for you:

"Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day
rise from the dead, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should
be preached in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem."
(Luke 24:46-47)

"Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out,
so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,
and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before."
(Acts 3:19 & 20)
